How Patient History Can Help Localise Lameness

with James Guthrie: BVMS CertAVP(GSAS) CCRT DipECVS DipACVSMR DipECVSMR FRSB FRSA MRCVS

To determine the cause of a lameness; a diagnosis is typically reached after a combination of taking a medical history from the client, physical examination of the patient, and diagnostic tests where required. The information we can gain from the patient’s history is frequently overlooked. If we ask the correct questions and carefully listen to the client’s concerns and answers; we can narrow down our differential diagnosis list substantially. We can either initiate treatment or better target our examination and diagnostic tests to achieve a definitive diagnosis.
