Veterinary Splinting, Orthotics, and Prosthetics
with Patrice Mich: DVM MS DABVP, DACVAA, DACVSMR, CCRT Canine Sports Medicine and Mobility
6 July: Myths and Pitfalls in Bandaging and Splinting from a Biomechanical Perspective
A 2011 retrospective study revealed a 63% incidence of injury associated with external coaptation so-called CASTI (cast associated soft tissue injury). With a clearer understanding of biomechanics, the incidence of these iatrogenic injuries can be reduced.13 July: Introduction to Veterinary Orthotics and Prosthetics
The use of veterinary orthotic and prosthetic (V-OP) devices is an emerging therapeutic strategy. In this webinar, we will apply the biomechanical principles covered in the previous session to the use of these devices. We will discuss the advantages and limitations of off-the-shelf vs custom devices.20 July: Use of Dynamic Orthosis in the Surgical and Non-Surgical Treatment of Canine Achilles Mechanism Injuries
Achilles mechanism injuries are common in the canine. In this webinar, we will discuss a newer approach to this injury, which allows for treating secondary digital plantarflexion (curling) in addition to the treatment of the Achilles mechanism injury. The former has not been addressed with traditional surgical and splinting techniques.27 July: What is the Role of Stifle Orthosis in Canine Cranial Cruciate Injury
In this webinar, we will consider the pathomechanics of cranial cruciate disease and the biomechanics required for stabilization of the cranial cruciate deficient stifle. The rationale and evidence for using an orthosis for this condition will be examined.
