It’s the Monday after the Vet Rehab Summit, and my mind is still buzzing with everything that unfolded on Saturday. Every year, this event feels like the culmination of months of planning, collaboration, and anticipation. But this year – Saturday, 8 November, Dynamic By Design – will be remembered as a day of firsts for the Onlinepethealth team.
Our first time welcoming over 6 000 registrations.
Our first time the Summit website went down just as attendees began logging in.
Our first time facing a problem we couldn’t resolve in minutes.
Our first time needing to pivot completely, finding a new way to deliver the live webinars outside the platform itself.
And our first time hosting while still waiting for CPD approval.
Every Vet Rehab Summit takes months of careful preparation. We test, rebuild, and test again. We check every link, page, and button from every possible angle. We even run mock events to simulate potential issues – because when you’re hosting thousands of people across time zones, you learn that technology always finds new ways to surprise you.
Usually, those backup plans sit quietly in the background, collecting metaphorical dust. This year, they leapt into action.
When the website failed under the weight of logins, our team went into immediate problem-solving mode. We restructured the event’s delivery, rerouted communications, and found new ways to stream the lectures. What could have been an unravelling instead became a lesson in adaptability, teamwork, and grace under pressure.
As I reflect, two lessons stand out most clearly.
- We are not defined by what goes wrong, but by how we respond when it does.
- Within this community, learning comes first – and resilience and kindness follow closely behind.
Gregg Popovich said, “The measure of who we are is how we react to something that doesn’t go our way.” That quote has echoed in my head all week.
Because when things didn’t go our way, the Onlinepethealth team reacted with calm and clarity. Every person instinctively stepped into the role that was needed – tech support, communicator, problem-solver, emotional stabiliser. The teamwork I witnessed behind the scenes was extraordinary: quiet, quick, and unwaveringly focused on what mattered most – ensuring that learning could continue and that our attendees felt supported.
But the real story of the day wasn’t about us. It was about the community.
Our vetrehabbers showed up with the same dedication and professionalism that define them daily in practice. We had attendees logging in from every corner of the world – some at 3 a.m., others long past midnight – united by their shared passion for learning. Even when technical hiccups tested patience, the chat rooms filled with encouragement, humour, and empathy. That spirit of generosity and kindness embodies everything the Vet Rehab Summit stands for.
Every year, we say that the Summit is about connection and growth. This year, those words took on a deeper meaning. Connection wasn’t just about networking or watching lectures side by side. It was about showing up for one another when things didn’t go according to plan. Growth wasn’t just professional; it was personal. It was about resilience, flexibility, and keeping perspective when the unexpected happened.
So yes – the day began with challenges. But by the time the final lecture ended, the screens were filled with smiling faces, insightful conversations, and a shared sense of pride. In hindsight, it may have been our best Vet Rehab Summit yet – not because it was perfect, but because it revealed the strength of the community behind it.
As we head into the new year, I carry immense gratitude for the Onlinepethealth team that meets pressure with creativity and calm, and for the community that continues to inspire us with their dedication to learning. Together, we’ll keep building, adapting, and growing – one challenge, one breakthrough, and one patient at a time.
